These terms apply to all FamilyNet member platforms and provincial sites.
Terms of Service
FamilyNet is a private, school- and organization-connected social platform operated by the Safe Social Networking Society, a Canadian nonprofit organization.
These Terms of Service apply to FamilyNet member platforms, including all provincial FamilyNet sites (for example, bc.familynet.ca).
By creating an account or using FamilyNet, you agree to these Terms.
1. Purpose of FamilyNet
FamilyNet is designed to provide a safe, private, and respectful online space for families, schools, and community organizations.
FamilyNet is not a public social network and is not open to general public access.
Access is limited to individuals who join using a valid School ID or Organization ID issued by a participating school or organization.
2. Eligibility and Access
To access FamilyNet, you must:
- Provide a valid School ID or Organization ID
- Be affiliated with a participating school or organization
- Use the platform only for its intended community purpose
FamilyNet reserves the right to deny, suspend, or terminate access where identifiers are invalid, misused, or revoked.
3. Account Responsibility
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining accurate account information
- Safeguarding your login credentials
- All activity conducted through your account
You may not:
- Share accounts
- Impersonate another individual or organization
- Attempt to bypass access controls, validation systems, or safeguards
4. Acceptable Use
FamilyNet is built on respect, accountability, and community trust.
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, or intimidate others
- Post illegal, harmful, or abusive material
- Misuse School IDs or Organization IDs
- Disrupt platform operations or security
- Use the platform for advertising, solicitation, or spam
5. Content and Conduct
Members are responsible for the content they post.
FamilyNet does not algorithmically promote content, amplify engagement, or prioritize visibility based on popularity.
Content that violates these Terms, community standards, or applicable laws may be removed.
6. Moderation and Enforcement
To protect community safety and platform integrity, FamilyNet may:
- Review reported content
- Investigate suspected misuse
- Restrict access to features or communities
- Suspend or terminate accounts
Moderation actions are taken as needed and are not based on behavioral surveillance or automated profiling.
7. No Advertising or Commercial Use
FamilyNet does not permit:
- Third-party advertising
- Sponsored or paid content
- Affiliate promotions
- Commercial solicitation
Use of the platform for commercial purposes is prohibited unless explicitly authorized.
8. Privacy
FamilyNet is designed with privacy by default.
Use of the platform is governed by the FamilyNet Privacy Policy, which explains how information is collected, used, and protected.
By using FamilyNet, you agree to that Privacy Policy.
9. Service Availability
FamilyNet may modify, suspend, or discontinue features or services at any time.
While we aim for reliable operation, availability is not guaranteed.
10. Communications
FamilyNet may communicate with members regarding:
- Account activity
- Safety or security matters
- Policy updates
- Service-related notices
These communications are necessary for operating the service.
11. Account Suspension or Termination
FamilyNet reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Violate these Terms
- Pose a risk to the community
- Undermine platform integrity
Actions may be taken without prior notice where necessary to protect members or the service.
12. Limitation of Liability
FamilyNet is provided on an “as-is” basis.
To the extent permitted by law, the Safe Social Networking Society is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the applicable provincial jurisdiction.
14. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated periodically.
Continued use of FamilyNet after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
