About FamilyNet
What is FamilyNet?
FamilyNet is a Canadian social network designed around privacy, trust, identity and accountability.
Members can connect with family, friends and others, participate in Groups and Group Events, and use FamilyMarket.
FamilyNet is supported by memberships rather than advertising or the commercial exploitation of member information.
How is FamilyNet different from mainstream social networks?
FamilyNet uses a membership-supported model built around the following commitments:
- No advertising
- No behavioural tracking for advertising
- No engagement algorithms
- No data harvesting for advertising
- No sale of member information
Our focus is on meaningful connections rather than maximizing engagement or advertising revenue.
Who can join FamilyNet?
FamilyNet offers many of the familiar features of mainstream social networks, but operates on fundamentally different principles.
Unlike mainstream social networks, FamilyNet requires mandatory identity verification for membership and participation.
This creates a foundation for greater accountability, trust and responsible online interactions.
Can I explore FamilyNet before purchasing a membership?
Yes. Selected FamilyNet content can be viewed publicly so visitors can learn about the network before joining.
Participation and member-only features require an appropriate FamilyNet account and membership.
Membership & FamilyPacks
What is a FamilyPack?
A FamilyPack allows one person to purchase memberships for themselves and additional family members under a single subscription arrangement.
Each person added to the FamilyPack has their own FamilyNet account and can participate independently.
View Membership & Pricing for available FamilyPack options.
Who is a Primary Member?
The Primary Member is the person who purchases a FamilyPack and manages the memberships for their family.
The Primary Member completes identity verification and is responsible for the members they add to FamilyNet.
Can I purchase memberships for people outside my immediate family?
A Primary Member can purchase additional memberships and assign them to other people, subject to FamilyNet membership rules.
The Primary Member remains responsible for the members they add to the network.
Is my account independent if I belong to a FamilyPack?
Yes. Every FamilyNet member has their own private and independent account, even when their membership is purchased through someone else's FamilyPack.
Being part of the same FamilyPack does not automatically give other members access to your private account, messages or restricted information.
What is Premium membership?
Premium membership provides access to additional FamilyNet features, including enhanced Group and FamilyMarket participation.
Members can review the available options and upgrade according to the current membership terms.
View Membership & Pricing for details.
Can I change my FamilyPack or membership later?
Available membership changes and upgrades depend on the FamilyPack and subscription options offered at the time.
The Primary Member manages their FamilyPack subscription, while individual members manage their own account information and participation.
Identity & Accountability
Is every FamilyNet member identity verified?
No. Identity verification is required for paying Primary Members.
A Primary Member can purchase additional memberships and assign them to other people without requiring each additional member to complete individual identity verification.
Primary Members are accountable for the members they add to FamilyNet.
Why does FamilyNet require Primary Member identity verification?
Identity and accountability are important foundations of FamilyNet.
Verifying Primary Members helps establish an identifiable and accountable person behind each FamilyPack and its associated memberships.
How is identity verification processed?
FamilyNet uses a third-party identity verification service. The process may require a government-issued identity document and a selfie or similar identity check.
Identity documents and selfies are handled by the identity verification provider and are not stored on FamilyNet servers.
Does identity verification guarantee safety?
No online service can guarantee complete safety or prevent every attempt at misuse.
FamilyNet uses identity verification, accountable membership, moderation and Rules of Conduct to reduce anonymity and provide a stronger foundation for responsible participation.
What does FamilyNet mean by "No Strangers"?
"No Strangers" reflects FamilyNet's emphasis on identity and accountability, rather than unrestricted anonymous participation.
It does not mean that every member is personally known to you or individually identity verified.
Primary Members provide an accountable connection for the additional members they introduce to the network.
Privacy & Safety
Is my FamilyNet account private?
FamilyNet is designed to protect member privacy and provide appropriate controls over personal information and participation.
Other members, including the Primary Member who purchased your membership, do not automatically receive access to your private account or restricted information.
Does FamilyNet sell or share my personal information for advertising?
No. FamilyNet does not sell member information or share it with advertisers for behavioural targeting.
Information needed to operate the service may be processed by authorized service providers in accordance with FamilyNet's privacy policies.
Is everything I post on FamilyNet private?
Not necessarily. Visibility depends on the type of content, where it is posted and the applicable access settings.
Members should review the visibility of their content before sharing personal or sensitive information.
How does FamilyNet deal with inappropriate behaviour?
Members are expected to follow FamilyNet's Rules of Conduct.
Inappropriate content or behaviour may be subject to review, moderation and appropriate account restrictions.
Members should report suspected misuse through the available reporting or contact channels.
